Embracing the Challenge to Overwhelm

Overwhelm. I'm hearing that word a lot from my clients these days. As though it's not enough to just keep up with the regular concerns of job and family, we've got rising gas and food prices, campaign rhetoric coming from every direction, and a succession of mind-numbing natural disasters to contend with. Overwhelm. Yep, that about sums it up.

Teaching a 3-Year-Old How to Save

Over the last few months, my three-year-old son has received quite a few $1 and $5 bills. Prior to the past few months, we would simply allow him to take a dollar to the store, select a low-cost toy, then give the dollar to the cashier to pay for it (with Mom or Dad quietly making up the difference). Recently, he's wanted to buy more expensive toys for just $1. After some explaining, my son understands that some things cost more and he needs to save his money to get them. He now has a savings jar and is excited to see his money grow.

National Library Week

National Library Week will be observed April 12-18, 2009 with the theme, "Worlds connect @ your library." National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.
