Thanksgiving Dinner Emergencies:

 

No eggs? Use 1/4 cup applesauce when baking

 

No Dried Breadcrumbs? Tear bread into small chunks, saute with butter until browned

 

No Half-and-Half? Use 7/8 cup milk plus 3 tablespoons butter for one cup of half-and-half

 

No Garlic Clove? Use 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

 

No All Spice? Use 1/2 cinnamon and 1/2 ground cloves


 

Garrard High School Student Makes His Own Fuel

 

In a time of $4 per gallon diesel fuel, Christian Wyler has skills that could make oil executives shudder. For the past four years, the Garrard County High School senior has been making biodiesel in his own back yard. The fuel that Wyler makes now goes into the diesel engines of his father's Volkswagen Jetta, as well as much of the equipment on his grandfather's Lincoln County farm.

 

Strange coincidence, curiosity and the price at the pump led Wyler to start up his operation. "I'm in FFA, and we are required to do a project," he said. "I was looking around for something to do."

As an emergency room physician, I realized something had to be done when I repeatedly found people struggling with a widespread problem that needed a solution - getting medical care on nights and weekends.

 

As a result, I established FreeMD.com so that people can get immediate answers 24 hours a day about what may be wrong and where to go for appropriate care. At the Web site, I greet people as a virtual doctor, ask questions in my own voice and tell them what may be wrong. I also tell them whether they should go to an emergency room, an urgent care center or a doctor's office. Visitors may even receive instructions on how to treat a problem at home.
