Beginner Mountain Bike Ride with Chris at San Tan Regional Park

7 am

I'm just going to do a relaxed mountain bike ride in San Tan Mountain Park. We will probably do Goldmine trail over to Moonlight and back. It isn't too long and only one climb that will take some effort. This is a perfect opportunity to try a new bike or try mountain biking for the first time. I want to start promptly at 7 am so please be punctual. Helmet is required and don't forget water. We will meet in the main parking lot. The park charges $6 if you park a vehicle or $2 if you ride your bike in. I'm riding from my house which is about 4 miles away. If you want to park at my house please get in touch with me so I can give you directions. Otherwise look for me on a black Specialized Hard Rock.  Got to our event calendar on Meetup.com for more information.

I'll be riding close to home if anyone wants to join me. I will start at the Wal-Mart on Gary Rd and Hunt Hwy. From there I will ride down Hunt to Bella Vista and turn left to Gantzel. Turn left on Gantzel, go to Empire, turn left again and head down to Wagon Wheel which is 1 1/2 miles or so past Ellsworth. We can choose to go up the little climb or just turn around and head back to Wal-Mart from there. Helmets are required and don't forget your water. Global Bikes Barn Burner!

 Flagstaff, AZ

Once again Global Bikes will be the title sponsor of one of  Arizona's largest Mountain Bike Events!  The Global Bikes Flagstaff Barn Burner!   The Barn Burner, June 19th,  is a 104 mile endurance mountain bike event.  The course is a 26 mile loop, and is on Forest Service roads, not technically challenging, but you are riding at altitude, in cooler weather, with cool people and camping out - what more can you ask for.  If you're interested in racing let us know as we will be putting together a few shop teams.  We will also have a few free entries that we will be raffling off, please stop in the Gilbert location to sign up for the free raffle!

Community Support

We will be out supporting the cycling community like never before this year and are getting spread pretty thin on some weekends, but hey, we like this stuff so why not!   Even as busy as we have been with events we are always looking for more ways to give back and support the cycling community.  So if you are involved with or know of a cycling event that could use some support shoot us an email, we'd be glad to lend a hand any way we can!  We can help out with: bike rodeos, bmx shows, S.A.G. support, tech support, Boy Scout cycling badges, private repair clinics for ride groups, we're even open to lending out our floor space for your cycling related clinics.  This is the way we give back, never a charge.  Let us know what we can help you with?  What would you like us to offer?

Riding Tip #168-Handle Bars

Because your hands do a lot of the work while you’re riding, they’re prone to fatigue, even damage. Most problems can be prevented by frequently changing hand positions. One of the great advantages of the drop-style handlebar that’s found on many road and touring bicycles is that it provides many different grips. It’s possible to grab on the drops, on the tops, on the brake lever hoods and elsewhere. Every ten minutes in fact, you should take another hand position. This will alleviate pressure on the nerves in the palms that can cause numbness and tingling, while helping to keep your upper body relaxed.

There are fewer options on mountain-style handlebars and other upright designs. If you have bar ends, use them. And don’t rule out gripping portions of the bar just because they’re bare metal. If there’s a place to rest your hands safely (always maintain a secure grip), by all means move them there occasionally for a change.

Bike humor

While crossing the US-Mexican border on his bicycle, the man was stopped by a guard who pointed to two sacks the man had on his shoulders. "What's in the bags?", asked the guard. "Sand," said the cyclist. "Get them off - we'll take a look," said the guard. The Cyclist did as he was told, emptied the bags, and proving they contained nothing but sand, reloaded the bags, put them on his shoulders and continued across the border. Two weeks later, the same thing happened. Again the guard demanded to see the two bags, which again contained nothing but sand. This went on every week for six months, until one day the cyclist with the sand bags failed to appear. A few days later, the guard happened to meet the cyclist downtown. "Say friend, you sure had us crazy", said the guard. "We knew you were smuggling something across the border. I won't say a word - but have you been smuggling?"    "Bicycles!"
