It's always interesting to see how our Team Members have personalized their work spaces. Many of our Team Members have affirmations, "sayings", or meaningful quotes posted. We'd like to use this section to share some of those thoughts. We'll open this section with a favorite from "back in the day". It's a little longer than we planned for our first edition, but thought it was a nice way to give our Team Members something to think about.
| All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (excerpted) |
| - Robert Fulghum |
Most of what I need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in Kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the mountain, but there in the sand pile at school. These are the things I learned:
Share everything. |
Play fair. |
Don't hit people. |
Put things back where you found them. |
Clean up your own mess. |
Don't take things that aren't yours. |
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. |
Wash your hands before you eat. |
Flush. |
Warm cookies and milk are good for you. |
Live a balanced life- learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and play and work every day. |
When you go out in the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. |
If you have a quote or affirmation that you would like to share with your Team Members, please email it to the Editor. Identify the source/author or note that you don't know where it came from (we have to be mindful of copyrights!). |

Team Member Newsletter goes Electronic! |
Earlier in the year, the Shared Governance Council asked our Team Members for feedback regarding the Team Member Newsletter. Team Members consistently responded that they would prefer an electronic version of the newsletter. In response to that feedback, ARM is pleased to present you with the inaugural edition of our electronic newsletter. Future newsletters will be distributed every two months.
As always, we're interested in your thoughts. After you've enjoyed this edition, please provide feedback to the Editor. |

Values in Action |
A big initiative for 2009 was for ARM to revise the Company Mission, Vision and Values. Human Resources took a field trip to all of our sites and asked Team Members to share how they demonstrate our Company Values in performing their job every day. We'd like to share some of their statements in this and future newsletters.
This month, we feature our Value of Extraordinary Culture:
Recognizing that our Team Members deserve to work in a caring environment of mutual respect and trust, we will:
Work as a team, investing in one another by sharing what we learn and what we know |
Collaborate to incorporate and enhance the unique contributions of each Team Member |
Foster and maintain a caring organization |
Communicate in a positive, effective and caring manner |
Establish and maintain strong working relationships |
Here's what some of our Team Members shared:
I often volunteer extra time to other teams and projects. I try to always be positive and approachable toward others. |
I work collaboratively with my co-workers and share knowledge, maintain respectful relationships. |
I am invested in seeing everyone succeed. The interconnectedness of people, both internal and external, is vital to a healthy organization. |
Helping other Team Members with problems. I use help from others with problems I might be having. |
Supportive, kindness, gratitude, acceptance, and respect I have for all those I work with internally and externally. |
I complete all my necessary tasks. I will not hesitate to assist our Team when they need help. We are very dedicated to getting goals met and work done. |
Next month, we'll feature our Value of Client-Centered Services.
If you would like to share how you demonstrate a specific value in a future newsletter, please forward your statement to the Editor. |

Shared Governance Heartbeat |
The Shared Governance Council was formed 2 years ago to create and maintain a healthy workplace. Shared Governance meets every month to discuss Team Member feedback, issues or concerns, and to make recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team that will improve the Company.
Shared Governance has recently experienced its first "changing of the guard". The "initial charter" members are rotating off and new members are coming on. We would like to thank the following members for their participation, enthusiasm and all of their great input during their tenure on the Council. The outgoing members are: Wendy Coker, Amber Kirkpatrick, Heather Redifer, Jeannette Torres-Galvin. We welcomed three new members at our July meeting. Our new members are Robert Martinez, Victoria Larson and Ratna Vasudev.
At our July meeting, we distributed the new constituent list and discussed goals for the remainder of the year. As always, we are interested in your input, so be looking for your Shared Governance Council representative to contact you soon. |

Unsung Heroes |
An unsung hero is a person who makes a substantive yet unrecognized contribution to a cause. We have a number of unsung heroes among us- Team Members who do great things, but ask for nothing in return, who demonstrate selfless concern for the good of others and act on that concern. With their permission, we'd like to share some of their stories and hope to inspire the rest of us to do what we can for the greater good.
This month, we salute Victoria Larson who has volunteered as The VICaP Volunteer, Interfaith Caregivers Program, through the Beatitudes Center DOAR, an organization to assist homebound adults and those with disabilities to live in their own homes as long as possible. Volunteers are recruited and trained to provide grocery shopping, transportation to medical and social service appointments, home repairs, business help, computer assistance, respite and home safety assessments, and the companionship of friendly visits and phone calls. Services to "neighbors" are provided once a week free of charge. The program serves Phoenix, Fountain Hills, Glendale, Litchfield Park, Paradise Valley, Peoria, and Scottsdale.
Victoria has assisted 5 individuals with business help over the last 20 years. She opens and reads their mail to them, pays their bills, and resolves problems. She also uses her experience and expertise to resolve their health insurance issues. Even more importantly, she provides companionship to those who have infrequent contact with others. As an enthusiastic volunteer, Victoria also helps with the orientation and training of new volunteers. Victoria describes the program as "an extremely fulfilling program that matches you with someone in your zip code or close by."
Advanced Reimbursement salutes Victoria and her personal commitment and contribution to those in need.
If you would like to salute a Team Member as an Unsung Hero, please submit your nomination to the Editor. With permission, we'll share their story in a future newsletter. |

A company newsletter would not be complete without an article on culture and diversity. What could be more fitting for the start of this feature than Independence Day, the birthday of our country?
July is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence announcing the separation from England and the establishment of the United States of America. As a nation, we celebrate July 4th with parades, fireworks, and backyard barbecues. Public officials give speeches recognizing our rich history and cultural diversity as new U.S. Citizens are sworn in and welcomed in naturalization ceremonies across the country.
Apart from our Native Americans, the United States citizens have a heritage from many other countries. Immigrants from other countries brought their language, values, beliefs, traditions and assimilated them into a new way of life. Jimmy Carter said it best when he said, "We have become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams." We are a beautiful mosaic here at ARM. In future newsletters, we'll explore some of the cultures and beliefs recognized and celebrated by our Team Members.
If you would like to see a culture, tradition or belief included in a future newsletter, please forward your ideas to the Editor. |
