Dear Moon Valley Member FirstName
In the Loop
Your Board met on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

President Gary Clarke and Club General Manager Steve Leonard present the following:

The items presented and discussed:

1. Steve Leonard gave his General Manager's Report including:
  a. An overview of the financial reports, which members are able to review by arranging an appointment with Steve.

2. Steve Leonard announced Kristen Hustead as the new Fitness Director. She will begin June 1st. She has taught individual classes at MVCC and was the former Fitness Director at Desert Highlands.

3. Craig Dean asked why he wasn't seeing a significant number of workers present at the renovation site. Gary Proch answered that they are working early in the morning or later when member activity is lower. Many of the workers are at the Club at 4am and after hours. We should be able to occupy the patio and banquet room by end of June, but the décor and details will still be in process.

4. Head Golf Professional Casey Bourque made a request to Steve Leonard about taking an unpaid personal leave in the summer for approximately one month to visit his family in Maine and his wife's family in Germany. Everyone supported this idea.

5. The Golf Committee's recommendation on the 2010 tournament schedule was reviewed and approved by the Board.

6. Jerry Wilde and Steve Leonard presented a follow up from the prior Board meeting regarding a special membership being offered to PGA Tour Player Bubba Watson. It was suggested that MVCC Member Ted Purdy be contacted to discuss the offer. Purdy was called and is in full support of the membership for Watson. Bubba will support the Junior Golf program at the club by participating and helping to promote junior golf clinics. The motion to offer Bubba Watson membership was approved by the Board.

7. Clubhouse Membership Initiation Fees will be waived until July 31st, and initiation fees will be priced at 50% of the Sports and Fitness Memberships until July 31st. The Jr. Associate Golf Preview Membership continues to produce consistent traffic. An Open House will be held on June 25th to showcase the renovations to Moon Valley residents. An invitation will be sent via 5,000 door hangers and information distributed through the Moon Valley HOA. Also, use Troon Email Blast and "Member Business" cards to promote Clubhouse memberships and banquet/catering business.

8. Craig Dean discussed his efforts to get Annika Sorenstam memorabilia for Grille 59. He received an autographed flag and has also requested a letter and autographed photo. He also presented the idea of a Moon Valley "Wall of Fame". The idea is to showcase professional golfers who have practiced, played or been members of the Club with framed photos and testimonials.

The concept was approved by the Board, location and details still to be determined.

9. May Memberships were reviewed as follows:

The Value of Troon Golf:

Board Members are sometimes asked "Why do we need a management company such as Troon Golf to manage our Club." We will be providing answers to that question and others this year as part of this update.

I am sure most of you will agree the golf course has shown consistent improvement since Troon Golf began managing the facility. Superintendent Rhonda Kennedy and her staff do an excellent job keeping the course and grounds in excellent condition. Not only does she have a direct pipeline to the corporate agronomy staff for discussion and suggestions for how to make the course even better, but Troon's agreements with vendors provides savings through several programs. Here are some examples of those savings I would like to share with you that were provided to me by Troon's procurement office:

Equipment

Troon Golf purchasing programs provide savings on irrigation and equipment packages. The competitive nature of the market has eroded pricing levels, but with Troon Golf's volume, the savings potential on a complete package can range as high as 10%.

Additional services include a provision for grow in equipment for new clubs, discounts on the computer program for irrigation, as well as vendor sponsored training seminars, OSHA compliance support, and dedicated contacts for Troon Golf properties.

Fertilizer and Chemicals

Additional Troon Golf purchasing programs encompass golf course chemicals and fertilizer, allowing an annual savings of approximately $2,500. This program also includes an allowance for soil testing equivalent to an annual savings of $1,000 per 18-hole facility. Forecasting product supply and demand with our preferred vendor allows the properties to purchase products during optimum market conditions. In addition, the programs provide vendor-sponsored assistance with materials handling training and OSHA compliance.

Other Operating Supplies

Additional savings averaging 10-15% on the usual golf course supplies such as sprinkler heads, irrigation supplies, signs, etc. are provided through national contracts.

Golf Cart Fleet

Application of Troon Golf's golf cart purchasing/leasing programs save approximately $16,000 to $20,000 on a fleet of golf carts. In addition, the programs provide each property with a substantial credit, $30,000, to be used for additional merchandise, typically carryall vehicles or beverage carts.

I believe these are just some of the many benefits that we enjoy by having our club managed by Troon Golf as evidenced by the outstanding conditions the course has been in this year. Many long-time members have made the comment they believe this is the best the course has ever been. - Gary Clarke, Board of Directors, President.

Thank you for your continued support of the Club. The experiences and camaraderie we enjoy at the Club become more important than ever during these difficult times as the Club is our sanctuary from the daily grind.

Please encourage your friends and associates to consider joining the Club. Growing the membership is vital to our success. Remember, the more members we have, the more we can continue to enhance the facility, making it more fun and enjoyable for all of us.
