HALO Happenings: Springtime

Donate Now

Letter from Heather

Dear Friends:

Did you know that next week is National Volunteer Week? Over the last 21 years, HALO has grown from a completely foster-based organization to one that has more than 50 staff and multiple locations. Through all this, our need for volunteers has increased. Without volunteers, we would never be able to handle all of the daily tasks that our pets require of us. We are always looking for more people who have time to help our homeless pets. We need dog walkers, kennel cleaners, kitty cuddlers, laundry heroes, office assistants and adoption counselors every single day of the week in all of our locations (including the PetSmart and Petco stores). We LOVE our volunteers and we love to see them come back time after time. Please consider getting involved – it’s a great time to do it!

We appreciate when people in the community find that there are other ways to give back. Ryan Tree, a local musician, decided to donate money to HALO for every time someone watched his new music video. What a creative way to help our pets! Ryan’s goal is to donate $3,000 to help us pay for the expenses we incur while we care for the cats and dogs looking for a home. You can help him meet that goal! Check out the article below.

HALO is also participating in Arizona Gives Day on April 7 for the third year in a row. You can donate to help our shelter pets or search for HALO Animal Rescue at azgives.givebig.org. HALO is eligible to win prizes based on how many donations we receive, so please consider helping!

It’s still a great time of year in the Phoenix area, and we’re celebrating with a few April promotions and an April event. (We always need volunteers for events, too!) If you are thinking about adopting or getting involved, now’s your chance. Please help in any way you can as we continue to see even more pets entering our shelter. One look around and you know how badly these pets want to find a home. Please share the news with your friends, coworkers or neighbors. Every bit helps!

Calling All Volunteers!

April 12-18 is National Volunteer Week, and we want to thank our HALO volunteers who work so hard to ensure that our pets get the best care possible. We also want to invite new volunteers to get involved and help save the lives of homeless pets. This week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to volunteer and give back to the local community. At HALO, we have many different volunteer opportunities for people who have a little or a lot to give!

You can help out at our main location by cleaning dog or cat kennels, providing socialization or helping with adoptions. You can also provide a vital service by helping with laundry or administrative tasks. We also have volunteer opportunities at our two offsite locations, Metro Mall Adoption Center and the PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center. If you are more of a cat person, we now have six PetSmart and Petco locations around the Valley with kitties who need love and attention.

National Volunteer Week, a program of Points of Light, was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year. If you love animals, are over 18 and have some time to give, why not get involved and become part of the HALO team?

Listen to Donate

Did you know that just by listening to music you can help pets? If you’ve watched this video recently, you have helped HALO earn money! Ryan Tree, a local Phoenix musician, decided that he wanted to do something to give back. He released his video, “What I’m Living For,” and committed 5 cents for every view to HALO to help pay for vaccinations, spays, neuters, bedding, toys and more.

Ryan’s goal is 60,000 views for the "What I'm Living For" music video, which will equal a $3,000 donation to HALO. So far, Ryan has already contributed more than $700.

“I had the pleasure of touring the HALO facility and it is wonderful place,” said Ryan via his website. “Members of the organization take great care of these animals with clean/comfortable indoor and outdoor living quarters, sweaters and blankets for the dogs, and soft music playing to keep pets calm. I am grateful to work with fellow animal lovers and hope you join me by helping to change lives through music.”

By viewing and sharing the music video, you will become a part of the mission and help to save the lives of animals in need. Please watch today! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTxjr4ZmXbY

April Showers

You know the saying, “April showers bring May flowers?” Well, HALO has changed it to “April showers bring pets named after flowers!” All April long, every pet over a year old will have $30 taken off their adoption fees at any of our three adoption locations (Metro Mall, PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center and the main shelter). Come visit our flower-named pets and see if anyone is the right fit for your family. Nothing makes spring happier than saving a life!

Tour for Life

On April 25 and 26, HALO is participating in an adoption event at the Deer Valley PetSmart parking lot with Tour for Life, the world’s largest lifesaving mobile pet adoption rescue and adoption organization. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, Arizona Humane Society, Fix.Adopt.Save and PetSmart Charities will all be joining together to help dogs and cats of all ages find new forever homes.

This event is part of a tour of the United States for Tour for Life, which will be visiting 37 cities and 26 states between March and mid-May in an effort to bring awareness to shelter pets and adoptable animals in their care.

Stop by on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or Sunday from 12-4 p.m. to find a new family member and learn how you can save a life!
